Earthquake, Volcano, Tsunami and Map Disclaimer

Important limits on Earthquake24 event, map, tsunami and volcano information.

This page describes the limits of events displayed by Earthquake24.

No earthquake prediction

Earthquake24 does not predict earthquakes. Current science cannot reliably state the exact time, place and magnitude of a future major earthquake.

Reported events, not an early warning

Earthquake24 displays events after they have been reported by a source and processed by our publication pipeline. It is not an earthquake early-warning system. A displayed event may appear after shaking has already occurred.

Preliminary and revisable information

Automatic earthquake solutions may not have been reviewed by a human. Magnitude, depth, coordinates, place description, event type, impact information and status can change. Events can be merged, reclassified or deleted.

A “Reviewed” status means that the source reports some human review; it does not guarantee completeness or perfect accuracy.

No shaking or damage radius

The circle or symbol around an epicenter is a visual marker. It does not show the area that shook, a damage zone, a safe zone or an evacuation zone.

Actual shaking depends on many factors, including depth, fault mechanism, local geology, distance and building vulnerability. ShakeMap and local-authority products are separate third-party products; Earthquake24 does not interpret them as safety guidance.

Tsunami field

A tsunami flag associated with an earthquake does not by itself constitute a tsunami warning, advisory, watch, threat assessment or evacuation order.

Earthquake24 provides no tsunami-response or evacuation instructions and is not a substitute for an official tsunami-warning service.

Volcano information

Volcano status may be automatic, delayed or regional. A displayed volcano event does not prove that an eruption is occurring at the moment you view the map. Alert terminology differs between institutions and countries.

Earthquake24 is not a volcano observatory, civil-protection authority or emergency service and provides no response, evacuation or exclusion-zone instructions.

Inactive GDACS source

Earthquake24 does not ingest, cache or display GDACS events in production. References to GDACS describe an external system and do not make it an active Earthquake24 source.

USGS

USGS earthquake information can be preliminary and subject to revision. USGS data and attribution do not imply that USGS endorses Earthquake24 or ZENIT GROUP S.A.S..

Data freshness and outages

Earthquake24 can be delayed by source outages, internet failures, schema changes, cache delays or processing errors. A lack of markers does not mean that no earthquake or volcanic hazard exists.

The interface displays the “source time”, “processed time” and data-status badge.

External maps and links

Map boundaries and names may be incomplete or disputed. External links and search results are controlled by third parties. Earthquake24 does not select or verify third-party news coverage.

No professional advice

Earthquake24 does not provide geological, engineering, legal, medical, insurance, navigation, financial or emergency-management advice.
