Earthquakes today and recent events
The default view shows earthquakes reported during the past 24 hours. You can change the time window to the past hour, seven days or 30 days and switch between the interactive map and accessible text list. Reports may arrive late or change, so “today” describes the selected source-time window rather than guaranteed real-time detection.
How to use the live earthquake tracker
Filter the map by minimum magnitude, reported depth, review status or significant events. Select a marker or list item to inspect its source time, coordinates and available event details.
What the event data means
Each event may include earthquake magnitude, earthquake depth, source time, update time, review status, felt reports, earthquake intensity, PAGER alert and a tsunami flag. Automatic solutions are preliminary and may be revised, merged, reclassified or removed.
Map symbols
Symbol size represents magnitude only. Colour distinguishes earthquakes below and at or above M 6.0. A selected marker may show an animated pulse whose size varies with magnitude and continues only while that event remains selected; it is a visual selection cue, not an estimate of felt distance, shaking intensity, damage or safety boundaries. Event coordinates are approximate reported epicentres.
